Pornography is everywhere, sometimes subtle, sometimes not. From Playboy logos on children's clothing to graphic hard-core images on a smart-phone, there is no escaping the fact that pornography has changed how we view ourselves as sexual human beings.
So when might pornography cause problems if it is all around us?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Have you ever watched porn to de-stress?
  • Have you ever watched porn to escape from work pressure?
  • Have you ever watched porn to escape from family or marital issues?
  • Have you ever watched porn when you were sad?
  • Have you ever watched porn when you really did not want to?
  • Have you ever watched porn after the "rush" had gone?
  • Have you ever watched porn even though you did not like the sex acts you saw?
  • Have you ever watched porn and felt inadequate as a lover?
  • Have you ever watched porn and thought your partner was not that attractive compared to the women or men you see in films?
  • Have you ever watched porn and coerced your partner into sex acts you had seen in porn?
  • Have you ever watched porn in work?
  • Have you ever watched porn and felt ashamed?
  • Have you ever watched porn and felt confused by the feelings it created in you?
  • Have you ever watched porn on a school or work break?
  • Have you ever watched porn first thing in the morning or last thing at night?
  • Have you ever watched porn and then visited strip clubs or escorts soon afterwards?
  • Have you ever manipulated your partner into watching porn when they did not want to?
  • Have you ever felt shocked from watching porn?
  • Have you ever decided, "ok, that's it, no more porn", but then gone back to it again?

We don't need to tell you that answering yes to three of these questions might indicate an issue with porn use, you already know that deep down. Pornography changes the brain structure and affects how we experience pleasure and manage intimate relationships.
If you are a teenager we will be happy to help you but we do need your parent's permission before working with you but this is not usually a problem in most people's cases.
